Ming Dynasty

Ming Dynasty – (1368 – 1644 A.D)
Ming Dynasty was a period of cultural restoration and expansion. Painters recruited by the Ming were instructed to return to didactic and realistic representation, in emulation of the styles of the earlier Southern Sung Imperial Painting Academy. Large-scale landscapes, flower-and bird compositions, and narratives were particularly favored as images that would glorify the new dynasty and convey its benevolence virtue, and majesty. Famous painter : Tang Yin, Chiu Ying etc.

In the late 15th and early 16th century of the Ming era, Paintings took on new form and meaning. Majority of the paintings symbolized moral values of society; paintings by Wen Zheng Ming surpassed mere symbols but delved into the temperament the artist’s consciousness and mood. Another notable artist was Chou Chen.
