Court Lady Enjoying the Cool, Anonymous, Yuan dynasty.

A court lady dressed in red robe, with her coiffure of a large topknot, turns her head to look back as she slowly walks forward.  Two maids with their hair tied in double buns at the back wait upon her; on the left one carries a white cloth and the right another holds a long sun fan.  The principal and secondary figures are clearly depicted, and the colors applied fine and vivid.  The line of the clothes is exquisite and powerful, while the folds of the garments are all shown by darker lines, and the collars and sleeves of the red robe are shaded with gold paint.  This extremely fine and delicate technique evokes the atmosphere of ancient beauty.

Fan slowly moves inviting the cool.
Vermilion gown flutters splendid in shape,
Blue sleeve draws in the breezes.
